Post: MoPH Launches Electronic System for Controlled Medicines for Travelers

Doha: The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has launched an electronic system for controlled medicines for travelers. This initiative allows passengers arriving in or departing from Qatar to apply for a prior permit to carry controlled medicines for personal use, track their application status, and receive the permit electronically, according to MoPH's press release issued Wednesday.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Ministry stated that the new electronic system aims to expedite procedures and enhance the user experience while maintaining pharmaceutical control standards. It ensures the safe and responsible use of controlled medicines. The system provides a flexible mechanism for travelers to meet legal and health requirements for carrying controlled medicines before their trip, enhancing pharmaceutical oversight to protect the community.

The Ministry has also released a guidance booklet detailing the use of the electronic system. It explains the services, requirements, application steps, and necessary documents, including the list of controlled medicines. MoPH noted that applications are processed within three working days once all requirements are met, and travelers are advised to apply at least five working days before travel.

The launch of this system aligns with the Ministry's commitment to automating services to ensure faster and more efficient processes, reflecting the priorities of the National Health Strategy. This includes achieving a more efficient and resilient health system and advancing towards a "highly efficient digital health system."

Travelers can access the electronic system through MoPH's website. To apply for the permit, users must log in via the National Authentication System, submit the application, and attach required documents such as a valid prescription. The Department of Pharmacy and Drug Control at the Ministry reviews the application, and the permit is issued based on regulatory requirements.
