MSDF Hosts Event to Celebrate International Day of Sign Languages

Doha: The Ministry of Social Development and Family (MSDF) celebrated the International Day of Sign Languages, observed globally on September 23, with a vibrant event at the Family Consulting Center (Wifaq), drawing numerous participants.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Ministry underscored that the event was designed to integrate the deaf community into the broader society, facilitate their social participation, raise awareness about the rights of deaf individuals, and promote the use of sign language as a vital communication tool.

The Ministry highlighted that the International Day of Sign Languages serves as a significant occasion to bring attention to the challenges faced by deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals worldwide.

Reem Khalifa Al Ajmi, Director of the Community Care Department at MSDF, remarked on the Ministry's dedication to spotlighting the deaf community and fostering societal awareness of their rights and abilities. She noted that the Ministry is committed to supporting individuals with hearing disabilities and enhancing their engagement across various life domains.

The event also featured a side exhibition showcasing the talents of deaf students, including art pieces, handicrafts, school projects, and creative expressions through sign language.
