OCHA Continues Appeal to Israeli Occupation For Gaza Aid Access

Geneva: United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has continued to appeal to Israeli occupation for access to Gaza to deliver and distribute thousands of tons of food, medicine, and other basic items waiting just outside Gaza.

According to Qatar News Agency, OCHA Spokesperson Jens Laerke stated that nearly 180,000 pallets of food and other life-saving aid are ready to enter Gaza. He emphasized that these supplies have been funded by global donors, cleared for customs, approved, and are ready for immediate distribution.

Meanwhile, the UN human rights office, OHCHR, reported that at least 47 people were injured on Tuesday while trying to collect aid. Ajith Sunghay, Head of OHCHR in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, mentioned in Geneva that the number of injured could rise as more information becomes available.

From January to March 2024, there have been 26 documented incidents where the Israel Defense Forces fired shots while people gathered humanitarian aid, as reported by Sunghay.
