OCHA: Fuel Shortages, Road Closures Slow Humanitarian Response in Gaza

Gaza: The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said on Wednesday that fuel shortages and road closures are significantly slowing the humanitarian response in the Gaza Strip.

According to Qatar News Agency, OCHA stated that although fuel deliveries have resumed, ongoing access restrictions, congestion, and storage gaps continue to increase costs and delay assistance efforts. The organization noted that UN partners managed to resume the distribution of monthly food rations for the first time since October 2023, reaching 100,000 people.

Following the ceasefire, 35 health service points were reactivated and 25 new ones were established, including 12 primary healthcare centers, most of which are situated in northern Gaza. OCHA also reported the expansion of Temporary Learning Spaces (TLSs) to 424 sites, with two new TLSs opening between January 3 and 4.

The Israeli occupation continues its operations in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, resulting in thousands of casualties, injuries, and missing persons, alongside hundreds of thousands of displaced individuals. Living conditions have deteriorated, with famine causing numerous deaths and widespread destruction impacting most cities in the Strip. This has occurred amid restrictions on the entry of food and medical supplies.
