Accra:The Palestinian presidency has called for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council to secure international protection for Palestinians. This appeal comes in response to escalating attacks by Israeli settlers and forces across Palestinian areas, including cities, villages, and refugee camps.
According to Qatar News Agency, Palestinian presidential spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh emphasized the need for immediate international intervention. He highlighted the increasing frequency of attacks, military raids, killings, destruction, and forced displacement, urging the Security Council to take action to prevent further violations.
Abu Rudeineh detailed that since Friday morning, there have been numerous attacks by settlers, targeting Palestinian farmers and olive pickers. These incidents have included the burning of trees and vehicles, uprooting of olive trees, theft of livestock and crops, and hindering Palestinians from accessing their land.
He further accused Israeli forces of conducting home raids, damaging property, and opening fire on civilians in the occupied West Bank. Meanwhile, the conflict and blockade in Gaza persist.
Abu Rudeineh warned that the situation threatens regional stability and reiterated the Palestinian demand for an independent, sovereign state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
