New York:The State of Qatar has emphasized the need for ongoing international support for Palestinians, focusing on addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and supporting recovery and reconstruction efforts.
According to Qatar News Agency, Her Excellency Minister of State for International Cooperation Dr. Maryam bint Ali Al Misnad made these remarks during a ministerial meeting of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee for Coordination of International Aid to the Palestinian People (AHLC), which took place alongside the 81st UN General Assembly.
Dr. Al Misnad highlighted that the ceasefire, along with the UN Security Council's 20-point plan for Gaza under Resolution 2803, had helped end large-scale fighting, facilitate the release of hostages, and improve humanitarian access. She noted Qatar's collaborative mediation efforts with Egypt, the United States, and Turkiye to reach this agreement and emphasized the importance of ensuring the safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid.
Despite these efforts, Dr. Al Misnad pointed out that Gaza's humanitarian crisis persists, with significant work needed to meet the needs of around two million people and create conditions for recovery and reconstruction. Qatar has committed $1 billion to the Board of Peace, with ongoing coordination of humanitarian and development efforts with the board and UN partners.
Addressing the situation in the occupied West Bank, she condemned the increasing settler violence against Palestinians and called for accountability. She stressed the importance of preserving the legal and historical status quo in Jerusalem and its Muslim and Christian holy sites.
Qatar also expressed opposition to settlement expansion, including plans related to the E1 area, measures concerning "state lands," demolitions, forced displacement, and any steps towards annexation, emphasizing that such actions undermine international law and efforts towards a two-state solution.
Dr. Al Misnad reaffirmed Qatar's support for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and its mandate established by the UN General Assembly, while advocating for the protection of its personnel and facilities. She reiterated Qatar's commitment to a just and comprehensive peace based on international legitimacy and a two-state solution, with an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital.
Qatar will continue collaborating with international partners through the AHLC and other mechanisms to address both immediate and long-term needs of the Palestinian people, supporting their rights as part of efforts to promote regional and international peace and security.
