Cairo: Qatar Chamber participated in the Arab Symposium organized by the Arab Labour Organisation in cooperation with the Arab Center for Human Resources Development under the title "Mobility of Arab Competencies and Talent Arab Development Opportunities." Acting General Manager of Qatar Chamber, Ali Bu Sherbak Al Mansori, presented a working paper addressing the phenomenon of the transfer of Arab competencies, which he described as a significant challenge hindering sustainable development efforts in many Arab countries.
According to Qatar News Agency, Al Mansori emphasized the importance of studying the mobility of Arab talents at local, regional, and international levels. He identified several factors contributing to this issue, with economic reasons being primary drivers of migration. He highlighted the lack of a stimulating scientific environment in many Arab countries, which discourages qualified individuals from remaining, alongside social factors such as security and job stability.
Al Mansori noted that Qatar has responsibly addressed this phenomenon by building and qualifying national expertise to achieve a knowledge-based economy. Qatar has invested substantially in digital infrastructure and attracted leading global technology companies, leading to the establishment of research, innovation, and development centers and incubators.
The symposium aimed to highlight the mechanisms of mobility and migration of Arab competencies, assess their impact on development, and explore solutions to overcome related challenges. Discussions also covered strategies to benefit from Arab talents, protect their rights, and the role of international and Arab standards in governing competencies' movement. The event saw broad participation from representatives of governments, employers' organizations, and labor unions.
