Zanzibar:Qatar Charity, operating through its Tanzania Branch, has formalized a partnership with the First Vice President's Office of Zanzibar to enhance support for persons with disabilities through a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
According to Qatar News Agency, the MoU aims to empower individuals with disabilities, enhance their social and economic inclusion, and improve their quality of life. The agreement was signed by Syed Shujaat Ali Shah, Acting Country Director of Qatar Charity in Tanzania, and Maryam Juma Abdulla, Permanent Secretary at the First Vice President's Office of Zanzibar.
The MoU outlines a framework to develop and implement various programs and projects focused on humanitarian assistance, social welfare, livelihoods, economic empowerment, accessibility, capacity building, and community awareness. This collaboration is expected to lay the groundwork for future joint initiatives, delivering significant positive impacts for vulnerable groups and local communities across the archipelago.
Maryam Juma Abdulla praised Qatar Charity's contributions to humanitarian and development efforts in Zanzibar, highlighting its support for over 400 orphans and initiatives in social welfare, education, economic empowerment, and access to safe drinking water.
Syed Shujaat Ali Shah emphasized Qatar Charity's dedication to expanding its development efforts in the region. Notably, under the "Ibsar" Initiative, Qatar Charity conducted an eye care and surgery campaign in Zanzibar, which benefited nearly 3,900 people. The campaign also included distributing over 415 prescription eyeglasses and performing 404 cataract surgeries.
