Doha: HE Chairperson of Qatar Museums Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani inaugurated 'The Race is On' exhibition at the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum (QOSM). The exhibition highlights Qatar's rich motorsport history and signifies a new chapter for Formula 1 in the nation. According to Qatar News Agency, the event was attended by key figures including HE Minister of Transport Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti, Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Museums Mohammed Saad Al Rumaihi, HE President of QOSM Sheikh Mohammed Abdulla Al-Thani, and Director of QOSM Abdulla Yousuf Al Mulla. The exhibition, in partnership with the UK's Silverstone Museum and the forthcoming Qatar Auto Museum, showcases expertise in motorsport history. Set to run until April 1, 2025, at the QOSM's E8 Exhibition Gallery, the exhibition aligns with the 2024 Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix and the 2025 Qatar International Rally. This event marks a pivotal moment in Qatar's motorsport history, from the inaugural Qatar Motor Rally in 1975 to the r ecent Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix at Lusail International Circuit. The exhibition offers a glimpse into Qatar's unique racing heritage with historic items such as racing suits, trophies, and a digital model of the Lusail Circuit. A notable exhibit is Ayrton Senna's helmet, featuring a prayer from his mother, discovered during preparation for the display. HE President of QOSM, Sheikh Mohammed Abdulla Al-Thani, expressed pride in showcasing artefacts and stories that inspire. The exhibition is an opportunity to learn about pioneering drivers and their stories, with contributions from international and local sources. Al Mulla expressed excitement at the opening of 'The Race Is On,' emphasizing the museum's commitment to reflecting the passion and innovation of the motorsport industry rooted in Qatari culture. Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs, Susan Patricia Hayward, highlighted the exhibition's focus on F1, rally, and Qatar's motorsport heritage, along with insights into renowned rally drivers Saeed Al Ha jri and Nasser Al Attiyah. 'The Race Is On' forms part of the Fall/Winter 2024-2025 Season of Qatar Creates, supporting Qatar's creative industries and cultural activities.
