Post: Qatar Officially Receives OCA Flag for 2030 Asian Games

Nagoya:The State of Qatar has officially received the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) flag at the closing ceremony of the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 in Japan. This marks the beginning of Doha's preparations to host the 21st edition of the Games in 2030.

According to Qatar News Agency, the ceremony featured the lowering of the OCA flag, which signified the conclusion of the Japan edition, followed by its ceremonial handover to the State of Qatar. Qatari Olympic and Asian champion Mutaz Barshim received the flag, symbolizing the start of the journey toward Doha 2030.

Qatar was presented with both the OCA's new flag and the historically significant old flag, along with the Asian Games torch. During the ceremony, a Japanese military honor guard carried the Qatari flag, and the national anthem was performed live by Qatari artist Dana Al Meer.

A short film was screened, showcasing the essence of sport, from the anticipation before competitions to the culmination of athletes' efforts at the podium. It highlighted the shared dreams of athletes and communities across Asia and emphasized the lasting impact of sporting moments. The film concluded with the message: "Doha 2030... Your Gateway."

In a symbolic act, Mutaz Barshim, alongside other elite Qatari athletes, raised the flag on stage, representing the spirit of inspiration and community support that will shape Doha 2030. The playing field in Japan transformed into a virtual time portal, connecting Nagoya 2026 with memories of Doha 2006.

Qatari rider Jassim Al Kuwari, on a purebred horse, took the flag from Barshim and embarked on a journey across Asia towards Doha. Upon reaching Doha, the flag was celebrated by cheering crowds as it was carried to the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, symbolizing Doha's role as both host and custodian of the Games' history.
