Post: QatarEnergy Secures Exploration Blocks in Brazil’s Ceara Basin

Hanoi:Doha QatarEnergy, in collaboration with Petrobras, has secured seven exploration blocks in the Ceara Basin during the 6th Concession Open Acreage Bid Round hosted by Brazil's National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Biofuels (ANP).

According to Qatar News Agency, the awarded exploration blocks are CE-M-471, CE-M-473, CE-M-475, CE-M-477, CE-M-537, CE-M-539, and CE-M-665. QatarEnergy will hold a 30% stake, while Petrobras, the operator, will maintain a 70% share.

HE Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of QatarEnergy, Eng. Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, expressed satisfaction with the successful bids, highlighting the addition of promising acreage to QatarEnergy’s upstream portfolio in Brazil. He acknowledged the support from Petrobras, ANP, and Brazilian authorities and emphasized the commitment to strengthening partnerships and ensuring successful exploration.

The concession contracts, which bolster QatarEnergy's presence in Brazil, are anticipated to be signed in the first half of 2027. These Equatorial Margin blocks cover approximately 4,700 square kilometers and are located in water depths ranging from 2,000 to 3,600 meters off Brazil's northeastern coast.
