Kuala Lumpur: Qatar's Ambassador to Malaysia, Salah bin Mohammed Al Sorour, has stated that the visit of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to Malaysia is set to enhance the strong relations between the two nations, focusing on strategic cooperation in the economy, investment, and education sectors.
According to Qatar News Agency, Ambassador Al Sorour emphasized that the visit aims to open new horizons for political coordination and regional dialogue, benefiting both countries and strengthening ties with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). He highlighted the importance of exchanging strategic visions to enable broader future collaboration across various sectors.
Ambassador Al Sorour pointed out that the relationship between Qatar and Malaysia is built on mutual respect and shared interests, with recent developments reflecting their commitment to cooperation in crucial areas. The ambassador noted that over 40 agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) have already been signed, with more than 20 new agreements currently being studied.
Regarding investments, the ambassador affirmed that Qatari investments in Malaysia are essential, particularly in the energy and real estate sectors. Projects like the "Pavilion" commercial project in Kuala Lumpur illustrate the potential for further collaboration under the Qatar 2030 and "Civil Malaysia" development visions.
The ambassador also mentioned HH the Amir's participation in the ASEAN-GCC-China Economic Summit, showcasing Qatar's strategic vision for strengthening regional and international partnerships. This participation is expected to foster new avenues for cooperation that align with common interests and expand integration opportunities.
Ambassador Al Sorour stressed the significance of Qatar's relations with ASEAN, acknowledging ASEAN's critical regional and international role. He noted that this relationship creates a promising platform for enhancing multilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of economy, development, and stability.
He concluded by highlighting the importance of ASEAN as a strategic partner for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, advocating for stronger partnerships and joint initiatives that promote economic growth and social stability. The upcoming ASEAN-GCC-China Summit in Malaysia is expected to focus on enhancing economic integration and adopting joint statements to bolster regional cooperation.
