Qatar’s Strategic Initiatives Drive Cultural and Economic Milestones

Doha: Qatari newspapers, in their Thursday editorials, spotlighted several significant developments, particularly the launch of the Tamim bin Hamad Chair for Arabic Language and Andalusian Culture, a key initiative by Qatar Foundation.

According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers emphasized Qatar's success in attracting over USD 2.7 billion in foreign direct investment and creating more than nine thousand new jobs in 2024. This achievement is attributed to strategic policy reforms and bolstered investor confidence.

Al-Raya newspaper highlighted the Tamim bin Hamad Chair as a meaningful cultural initiative that transcends traditional academic cooperation. It underlined the initiative's importance as part of Qatar Foundation's vision to empower knowledge and build sustainable cultural bridges globally. The newspaper noted that Qatar Foundation views education as a global force, not just a local activity, enhancing Qatar's cultural presence worldwide. The choice of Andalusia reflects the revival of Arab civilizational excellence in a modern academic context, aiming to restore the Arabic language's status in science and dialogue among civilizations.

The editorial further elaborated on how this Chair could transform cultural diplomacy by integrating education and research, fostering academic and cultural ties between Qatari and Spanish academics, and promoting creativity and mutual understanding.

On the economic front, Al-Watan newspaper discussed Qatar's success in attracting substantial foreign direct investment, emphasizing the allocation of 95 percent of capital expenditure toward green projects. This reflects Qatar's commitment to economic diversification as part of its Third National Development Strategy. The newspaper also reported on the Cabinet's review of a draft law to amend regulations on non-Qatari capital investment, aiming to enhance foreign investment attractiveness and private sector GDP contribution.

The growth in investment inflows has advanced Qatar by 21 places in global rankings, placing it among the top 15 countries worldwide in attracting foreign direct investment. This progress highlights Qatar's appealing business environment and its ability to attract global companies seeking to leverage its advanced infrastructure. The newspaper projected that amending investment laws will further boost Qatar's economic achievements.
