Qatar’s Tourism Sector Sees Promising Growth with 1.13 Million Visitors in Q1

Doha: Qatar's tourism industry is poised for a robust expansion in the latter half of 2026, as it welcomed 1.13 million visitors in the first quarter of the year. Tourism expert Ayman Al Qudwa emphasized Doha's strengthened position as the Gulf's leading tourism capital, becoming a favored destination for Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) travelers, thanks to its comprehensive tourism ecosystem and advanced infrastructure.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al Qudwa highlighted the role of Hamad International Airport and Qatar Airways in bolstering the tourism sector. The airport connects Doha to over 190 global destinations, while Qatar Airways' extensive network of over 160 destinations and 140 daily flights facilitates increased visitor arrivals. This integrated tourism model blends entertainment, hospitality, and economic value, making Qatar an attractive destination for both domestic and international tourists.

Al Qudwa noted that domestic tourism has emerged as a cost-effective and family-friendly option, benefiting from the diverse attractions and facilities within Qatar. This trend is expected to drive a significant recovery in tourism activity during the second half of the year. Qatar Tourism has expanded its offerings to include nature reserves, historic sites, international resorts, public parks, and traditional markets, enhancing the country's appeal to visitors seeking tranquility and relaxation.

The National Planning Council's 2023 data revealed that Qatar hosted 167 cinema screens with a seating capacity of 38,210, screening over 5,497 films, including a mix of foreign and Arabic productions. Museums and exhibitions attracted approximately 1.09 million visitors in the same year, indicating a thriving cultural scene.

Additionally, Qatar's hospitality sector boasted 189 hotels and hotel apartments in 2023, providing 46,806 rooms and 68,495 beds. The sector recorded 6.67 million guests and 15.68 million hotel room nights, underscoring its capacity to accommodate a growing number of tourists.
