QNL’s Libraries Lead Forum 2025 Renews Commitment to Collaboration

Doha: Qatar National Library (QNL) has concluded its annual Libraries Lead Forum 2025, which brought together industry professionals, scholars, and cultural leaders from across the region and beyond. Held in partnership with the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) MENA Regional Office, the forum showcased the power of collaboration, innovation, and openness in transforming the future of libraries.

According to Qatar News Agency, the event, themed "Libraries Thriving Together in an Open Ecosystem," placed a strong emphasis on creating resilient and inclusive library communities through global partnerships, emerging technologies, and shared knowledge networks. Beginning on May 4 with dedicated pre-forum workshops, the attendees had the opportunity to engage in hands-on sessions focused on strategic collaboration and innovation in open library environments.

The forum's second day opened with remarks by HE Minister of State and President of QNL Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kawari. His Excellency highlighted the need for integrated and collaborative knowledge ecosystems to address the accelerating challenges facing the world today. He emphasized that investing in knowledge through global partnerships and emerging technologies is crucial for fostering sustainable societies and creating a more just and inclusive future.

Executive Director of QNL Tan Huism also addressed the evolving role of libraries, stating that they now serve as dynamic platforms for intellectual exchange, digital innovation, and global partnerships. She stressed the importance of digital transformation while safeguarding the cultural identity and historical legacy of communities for future generations.

QNL's Director of Research and Learning Services Abeer Al Kuwari confirmed that the Library continues to implement numerous pioneering initiatives and projects at both Arab and international levels. These initiatives aim to provide free access to knowledge and enhance the library's vital role in societal development. Al Kuwari emphasized the need to strengthen partnerships with Arab and international libraries to promote knowledge management and libraries.

The event featured a speech from Secretary General of IFLA Sharon Memis and a message from IFLA MENA Regional Office Director Eiman Al Shammeri. A standout panel discussion, moderated by Director of Majlis Oman Library Dr. Waleed Albadi, explored the development of shared digital ecosystems and strategies for advancing open access. The panel highlighted the role of libraries in fostering knowledge equity and overcoming various challenges through regional and global collaboration.
