Doha- The Qatar Olympic Committee represented by the Director of Legal Affairs Department , Sheikh Ahmad bin Nooh Al Thani has participated in a video- conference meeting of International Partnership Against Corruption in Sport (IPACS) on Tuesday.
This partnership has come as an outcome of IPACS’s commitment from Anti-Corruption Summit which was held in UK’s capital city of London in May 2016.
The IPACS partnership was established in 2017 as a multi-stakeholder initiative aimed at bringing together international sports organizations, governments, inter-governmental organizations to strengthen sport integrity, fight corruption and build a better sport integrity culture.
Most notably, four force tasks have been assigned to senior experts and steering committee members to join hands together during high ranking periodical meetings to reduce the risk of corruption in procurement relating to sporting events and infrastructure, ensuring integrity in the selection of major sporting events; optimising the processes of compliance with good governance principles to mitigate the risk of corruption and enhancing effective cooperation between law enforcement, criminal justice authorities and sport organizations.
In Tuesday’s meeting, the participants reviewed the progress they made in the partnership works, teams results being achieved , set up a strategic roadmap of partnership for 2023-2024 , reviewed governance guide and appointed steering committee members for the term 2023-2024.
In this regard, Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Officer at the Corruption and Economic Crime Branch of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Mr Ronan O’Laoire and Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer at the International Olympic Committee Mrs. Pâquerette Girard Zappelli have both focused their remarks on Task Force (4) , which calls for enhancing effective cooperation between law enforcement, criminal justice authorities and sport organisations that in compliance with updated international effort to protect sports against corruption.
