QSTP Examines AI’s Role in Sustainability and Qatar’s Vision 2030.

Doha: Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP), a component of Qatar Foundation (QF), recently hosted a pivotal discussion panel during AI Week 2024, titled "Explore how AI can Contribute to Sustainability and Qatar's Vision 2030." The session featured prominent speakers including Raha Hakimdavar, Senior Advisor to the Deans of Georgetown University in Qatar, Santiago Banales, Managing Director of Iberdrola Innovation Middle East, Alhassan Alsammrai, CEO and Founder of Applab, and Amy Shang, CEO of ZD Energy. The panel was skillfully moderated by Omar Ashour, Co-Founder of ebutler and Enable Tech. According to Qatar News Agency, the participants analyzed various AI systems utilized within their organizations and deliberated on their integration with sustainable development goals. The discussion extended to the examination of AI in autonomous vehicles, especially electric cars, and its crucial role in sustainability. Furthermore, the panel explored AI applications in aircraft, satellites, space sciences, and other sectors. Omar Ashour, in a statement to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), highlighted his company's specialization in technology and AI, emphasizing their contribution to digital development and AI applications in the local market. He stressed the session's focus on AI's potential to support sustainability and enhance efficiency, facilitating informed decision-making. Additionally, Ashour underscored the potential advantages of AI programs and applications. Alhassan Alsammrai, in a similar statement to QNA, elaborated on the interconnection between AI, human progress, and development. He underscored the significance of encouraging students to advance their research using AI. On AI Week's fourth day, Ghanim Al Sulaiti, CEO and Founder of Enbat Holdings, addressed a large audience, emphasizing the importance of investments that foster sustainability. In an interview with QNA, Al Sulaiti shared his company's dedication to promoting a healthy lifestyle and investments in sustainability and healthcare. He high lighted AI's role in advancing sustainability, linking it to technological advancements. Al Sulaiti's remarks aimed to underscore the necessity of AI methodologies in projects that mitigate carbon emissions, thereby improving information acquisition for community and business benefit in Qatar. For instance, his company employs AI to estimate food waste in their restaurants, thereby reducing unnecessary waste. The events of AI Week 2024 at QSTP are set to conclude on Thursday, featuring participation from technology experts, professional leaders, innovators, and academics. Celebrating QSTP's 15th anniversary, AI Week presents a diverse program encompassing lectures by industry experts, panel discussions, workshops, live technology demonstrations, and inspirational speeches, drawing professionals, researchers, startups in AI, and technology enthusiasts worldwide.
