Doha: Qatar University (QU) won first place in the 2026 Digital Twin Contest, organized by Working Group 5.1 of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) in Lecce, Italy.
According to Qatar News Agency, the university achieved this accomplishment with a research project titled "Digital Twin-Driven Event Based Production Rescheduling with Deep Reinforcement Learning." The project illustrates how Digital Twin technology can be integrated with artificial intelligence (AI) to develop more efficient solutions for manufacturing systems.
The research explores dynamic adaptation of production schedules in response to disruptions. By using a Digital Twin to represent the production environment and Deep Reinforcement Learning to identify rescheduling decisions, the project offers innovative approaches to enhance responsiveness in manufacturing.
Supervised by Professor Abdelaziz Bouras, the project team comprised a group of researchers and students, along with local and international collaborators. This victory demonstrates the high quality of academic research at Qatar University and showcases the competency of its students on a global scale.
