Doha: HE Secretary-General of the Doha-based Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRIs) Sultan bin Hassan Al Jamali highlighted the necessity of activating international legal mechanisms to address the suffering of the Palestinian people. He emphasized that the ongoing siege and daily hardships faced by Palestinians, along with attempts to erase their identity and rights, require a unified effort to ensure accountability for human rights violations.
According to Qatar News Agency, Al Jamali made these remarks during a ceremony organized by ANNHRIs to honor Dr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, at the League's headquarters in Cairo. He reaffirmed the Network's commitment to supporting the Palestinian people's legitimate struggle, advocating for their right to self-determination, and promoting values of freedom and justice to enhance regional and global peace and security.
In addition, ANNHRIs organized the sixth foundational edition of the 'Mohamed Fayek Course' on human rights in Cairo, in cooperation with Egypt's National Council for Human Rights. Al Jamali emphasized the pivotal role of national human rights institutions, which act as a crucial link between the state, civil society, and international mechanisms, bridging gaps between international obligations and national practices.
He noted that the Arab Network initiated the Mohamed Fayek course to deepen understanding of human rights roles, strengthen cooperation among stakeholders, and develop skills of new members, thus contributing to building a coherent national human rights system and enhancing the capacity of institutions to influence public policy.
Vice President of Egypt's National Council for Human Rights, Mahmoud Karem, highlighted the significance of naming the course after Mohamed Fayek, recognizing his comprehensive expertise in the human rights field. Karem underscored the importance of the course, especially amid complex regional and international contexts marked by conflicts and challenges, stressing the need to prepare young cadres with deep awareness and analytical skills.
