Doha: The Shura Council held its regular weekly session on Monday, chaired by HE the Council Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim. The session took place at the Tamim bin Hamad Hall at the Council's premises, where the Council expressed its appreciation for the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, recognizing it as the result of collaborative efforts by the State of Qatar with allied countries.
According to Qatar News Agency, the legislature highlighted the significant role of the wise leadership, under the guidance of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, in achieving the ceasefire deal. This agreement is seen as a step toward de-escalation and lays the foundation for fair and lasting solutions to the ongoing conflict. The Council affirmed that this deal underscores Qatar's status as a reliable global mediator.
The Council commended Qatar's unwavering humanitarian stance and continuous support for Palestinians, particularly in the Gaza Strip. It emphasized Doha's commitment to advocating for the rights of the Palestinian people and supporting their just cause. HE Al Ghanim praised Qatar's efforts to halt the violence against Palestinians and its role as a strong advocate for peace and initiatives aimed at protecting civilians and easing their suffering.
HE Al Ghanim also noted that Qatar's ongoing aid to meet the essential needs of Palestinians reflects its dedication to standing by them during challenging times, aligning with its moral and humanitarian responsibilities. Following this, HE Shura Council Secretary-General Nayef bin Mohammed Al Mahmoud presented the agenda, and the minutes of the previous session were approved.
During the session, the Council approved a draft law to extend the concession granted to Mwani Qatar and referred it to the government after a discussion on the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee's report. The Council also reviewed a report from the Education, Culture, Sports, and Information Committee on a motion to regulate private schools and made the necessary decisions.
Additionally, the Council considered the government's response to a motion to enhance the tourism economy, referring the matter to the Economic and Financial Affairs Committee for further examination. The session concluded with discussions on reports regarding the participation of delegations in events held in October 2024, including meetings in Geneva and the Arab Women's Parliamentary Document conference in Amman.
