Cairo: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher engaged in a phone conversation to discuss the humanitarian conditions emerging from crises in the Gaza Strip and Sudan.
According to Qatar News Agency, Abdelatty highlighted the necessity of intensifying global efforts to ensure the unobstructed delivery of humanitarian, medical, and relief aid to Gaza. He urged the removal of Israeli barriers that hinder the effective distribution of aid, particularly during the challenging winter period.
Abdelatty emphasized the protection of civilians and the need for increased essential aid, including relief supplies and caravans, to alleviate the hardships faced by the residents of Gaza. He also pointed out the necessity of implementing the gains from the second phase of US President Donald Trump's plan, along with initiating early recovery and rebuilding efforts.
Regarding Sudan, Abdelatty underscored the importance of providing safe shelters and facilitating the unobstructed flow of humanitarian aid to the Sudanese population. He condemned the severe massacres and violations occurring against civilians in regions such as El-Fasher and North Kordofan.
Furthermore, Abdelatty expressed Egypt's full support for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), acknowledging its crucial role in enhancing the response to humanitarian crises in the region. He reiterated Egypt's commitment to protecting civilians and monitoring abuses both in the occupied Palestinian territories and Sudan, emphasizing the importance of maintaining close coordination with the UN and its specialized agencies to reduce civilian suffering and promote regional stability.
