Gaza Ministry of Health Warns Dearth of Laboratory Consumables Reaches Catastrophic Levels

Gaza: The Ministry of Health in Gaza revealed a catastrophic-level crisis in laboratory consumables, which is affecting the provision of medical care to patients.

According to Qatar News Agency, the ministry clarified that 75 percent of chemistry testing reagents are unavailable, while 90 percent of the stocks of blood testing and transfusion materials are at zero. It pointed out that the necessary tests for endocrinology, oncology, kidney transplant patients, and blood electrolytes, as well as complete blood count (CBC) tests, have been halted, noting that 72 percent of bacteriological culture testing reagents are unavailable.

The statement further caveated that no laboratory consumables or blood bank supplies have been delivered in months, underscoring the unbearable frenzy that is crippling diagnosis and surgical procedures. Consequently, the ministry appealed to the authoritative agencies to spring into action to enhance the assets of laboratories and blood banks.

Since the flare-up of the war of annihilation in Gaza on Oct. 7, 2023, Gazans have been gripped by a perilous crisis and humanitarian tragedy, with the Israeli occupation denying access to essential medical supplies amid worsening living conditions.
