Doha: HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani has attended the signing of a strategic partnership agreement between Qatar and Turkiye to jointly develop Qatar's third satellite. The agreement signifies a collaboration between Es'hailSat, the Qatar Satellite Company, and Turkiye's national satellite operator, Turksat, and it highlights an expansion in the space and satellite communications sector.
According to Qatar News Agency, the agreement was signed on Tuesday in Doha and involves the collaboration of Es'hailSat and Turksat on the Es'hail-3/Turksat-Biruni satellite project. A separate contract was also signed with aerospace manufacturer Thales Alenia Space to design and build the satellite. The partnership aims to combine satellite assets, ground infrastructure, distribution networks, and customer relationships, enhancing satellite and communications services across the Middle East, North Africa, Europe, Central Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa.
The companies involved have outlined their intention to meet increasing demands for high-throughput broadband services, mobile communications for the aviation and maritime sectors, and government and enterprise VSAT services. The agreement will facilitate shared investment in infrastructure, optimize satellite capacity, and maximize the commercial potential of the Es'hail-3/Turksat-Biruni satellite. The ceremony was attended by ministers and senior officials from both Qatar and Turkiye, underscoring the importance of this strategic partnership.
