New York:Qatar has urged the international community to strengthen cooperation to secure additional financing for development, addressing challenges such as rising debt, conflicts, and climate pressures.
According to Qatar News Agency, Qatar hosted a high-level event on financing for development during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. The event, held in New York, was organized by the Qatar Fund for Development in collaboration with Canada, Norway, the World Bank Group, the Inter-American Development Bank Group, the UN Development Program, and the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean.
HE Minister of State for International Cooperation Dr. Maryam bint Ali Al Misnad highlighted the increasing pressures on the international development landscape, which hinder countries' ability to invest in their populations and future. She emphasized the urgent need for investment in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and job creation.
Qatar's foreign policy prioritizes international cooperation and development assistance, focusing on solidarity, shared responsibility, and collective action to tackle global challenges, according to HE Al Misnad. She stressed that sustainable development is crucial for creating peaceful, stable, and prosperous societies, with a focus on human dignity.
While traditional development assistance remains vital, HE Al Misnad acknowledged that it alone cannot address the current challenges' scale. She called for enhanced collaboration among governments, development banks, international organizations, and the private sector to mobilize additional development resources.
The minister expressed hope that the event would lead to identifying practical cooperation opportunities, mobilizing additional financing, and transforming shared development commitments into concrete actions.
