Qatar and Syria Strengthen Bilateral Relations with Key Diplomatic Visits

Doha: Qatari-Syrian relations continue to deepen as highlighted by recent meetings between HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and HE President of the Syrian Arab Republic Ahmed Al Sharaa. The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation across various fields.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Watan newspaper emphasized how the Amir expressed optimism that these meetings would elevate the cooperation between Qatar and Syria. The Syrian President affirmed his country's commitment to enhancing relations, aiming to serve mutual interests. Al-Watan noted Qatar's ongoing support in key Syrian sectors such as education and health, alongside contributions to reconstruction efforts, which aid in Syria's recovery and stability.

Al-Watan concluded that the Amir's visit to Damascus marked a significant moment in bilateral relations, while the Syrian President's visit to Doha is seen as a step toward strengthening ties between the two nations. Al-Arab echoed these sentiments, noting that President Al Sharaa's visit reflects the remarkable development in relations. The newspaper highlighted Qatar's humanitarian assistance to Syria, including medical and food supplies, which underscores the depth of their relationship.

The Peninsula further reinforced the enduring support Qatar has provided since the unrest in Syria began in 2011. The newspaper mentioned that Qatar was among the first to support Syria post the former regime's fall in December 2024, operating an air bridge of aid and addressing humanitarian needs. The Peninsula also pointed out Qatar's role in settling Syria's financial obligations to the World Bank and the reopening of its embassy in Damascus, marking a new chapter in diplomatic relations after 13 years.
