New York:The State of Qatar emphasized the need for increased international solidarity and fair access to vaccines and treatments to enhance readiness for future pandemics and health emergencies.
According to Qatar News Agency, Her Excellency Dr. Maryam bint Ali Al Misnad, Minister of State for International Cooperation, made these remarks at a high-level United Nations meeting on pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response. The meeting took place alongside the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Dr. Al Misnad stated that health is crucial to sustainable development and the prosperity of communities. She noted that Qatar's National Vision 2030 prioritizes human development, guiding investments in healthcare infrastructure, services, and innovation.
She further elaborated that Qatar has established an integrated healthcare system offering both preventive and curative services. The country is dedicated to a comprehensive, equitable, and sustainable approach to pandemic and health-emergency preparedness.
Qatar's National Health Strategy 2024-2030, centered on the theme "Health for All," focuses on population health, healthcare delivery, and health-system efficiency. The Covid-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of resilient and inclusive health systems capable of handling major emergencies, according to Dr. Al Misnad.
Dr. Al Misnad pointed out that Qatar's substantial healthcare investments enabled a comprehensive pandemic response, resulting in one of the lowest Covid-19 mortality rates. She also mentioned Qatar's international humanitarian aid, including medical and relief support during health emergencies, and commended the World Health Organization's efforts in addressing current and future health challenges.
She underscored that future pandemics require genuine international cooperation and equitable, sustainable access to preventative medical measures, including vaccines and treatments. Dr. Al Misnad reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to supporting global initiatives aimed at strengthening public health and addressing shared health threats.
