Manama: The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Social Development and Family (MSDF), participated in the second meeting of the Permanent Committee for Women's Affairs of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) at the Supreme Council for Women in Bahrain. The Assistant Undersecretary for Family Affairs at MSDF, Sheikha Sheikha bint Jassim Al-Thani, represented Qatar in the meeting.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Committee aims to coordinate GCC countries' efforts on women's issues, enhance cooperation, and unify visions regarding women's empowerment, progress, and leadership. The meeting reviewed a decision from the Ministerial Council session in Kuwait in November 2024, focusing on a joint Gulf action strategy for women's affairs in the GCC countries for 2024-2030. This strategy was adopted during the tenth meeting of the Committee of Ministers of Social Development Affairs held in Doha in September 2024.
The meeting addressed the General Secretariat's proposals to develop executive procedures for the strategy's axes, involving cooperation among member states and coordination with the GCC General Secretariat. Additionally, the discussion included a comprehensive vision prepared by the GCC General Secretariat and Kuwait for a side event on women at the GCC level, to be part of the upcoming United Nations Commission on the Status of Women session in New York City next March. This event aims to highlight GCC women's roles in modern technology and their contributions to digital transformation.
Committee members also considered the proposed timetable for the event, aiming to showcase GCC women's achievements and impact.
