Doha: Qatari newspapers, issued Wednesday, praised the success of the voting process in the referendum on the draft constitutional amendments for 2024 to the Permanent Constitution of the State of Qatar, which witnessed a large public turnout Tuesday. The newspapers agreed that this referendum clearly demonstrated the spirit of national unity that was manifested in the cohesion between the leadership and the people, when Qataris responded to the call of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and participated in large numbers, which reflects the spirit of unity and equal citizenship led by HH the Amir’s vision to strengthen national partnership and consolidate the principles of justice and equality.

According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers voiced certainty that after the announcement of the referendum results, there will be a new phase in the country’s developmental journey, giving and work for its development, progress, and achievement of aspirations, to be at the forefront of advanced countries,
and the national spirit formulated by the people with the leadership, which will contribute to creating a solid foundation, based on the constitution, unity of citizenship, and equality in rights and duties.

Al Raya newspaper reported that the referendum on the draft constitutional amendments succeeded due to the solidarity, determination, and will of the people of Qatar, who flocked in large numbers since early morning Tuesday to the referendum headquarters. In an article by the editor-in-chief, the newspaper said that at seven in the morning, crowds of citizens, both male and female, headed to the poll stations in a civilized scene and enthusiastic atmosphere. The turnout continued until the referendum process was completed at seven in the evening.

The newspaper highlighted that the people of Qatar responded to the call of the nation and the invitation of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to participate in the referendum with national enthusiasm that overwhelmed all segments of society, as every
one realized the importance of participating in this historic event based on national duty and belief in the importance of constitutional amendments in consolidating the values of justice, national unity, and equality in rights and duties. This turnout in participating in the referendum was unprecedented.

The newspaper indicated that the Qatari citizens’ turnout to cast their votes in the referendum, in an effective and broad response to the call of HH the Amir, confirms the strong popular cohesion between the Qatari people and the leader of their renaissance march, who reciprocates their love with love, to continue the march of achievements, leadership, and progress in various fields. Al Raya concluded by saying that the people have succeeded in achieving the objectives of the amendments in strengthening the pillars of society, national unity, and the values of justice and equality in rights and duties. The people look forward with optimism and confidence to a better tomorrow for the nation, with the solida
rity of its loyal sons with the leader of the march of pride and prosperity, renewing the pledge to continue loyalty and devotion to the nation and the leader, for the good of the dear nation.

Al Watan newspaper emphasized that the referendum on the draft constitutional amendments was not only a right and a duty for all of us, but it also turned into a real social ritual that reflected the nature of Qatari people, their solidarity, cohesion, their loyalty to their leadership, and their faith in their homeland. In an article by the editor-in-chief, the newspaper saw that the poll stations were an occasion to perform national duty and exchange conversations. The unique consensus on the importance of this amendment was striking, as it came to express the nature of Qatari society. The newspaper stressed the importance of participation in the referendum on the constitutional amendments, as it was not merely an expression of opinion, nor merely participation in an important occasion, as much as it was a referendum
on values, harmony, and unity of destiny.

Al Watan indicated that identity has always been a living entity that is subject to change and development over time, whether due to internal factors or external influences, but the national identity has maintained its authenticity, based on that large stock of values, customs, and traditions that appeared in their most beautiful forms on Tuesday. The newspapers concluded by saying that if the issue of preserving Qatari people’s customs, traditions, and civil social institutions and their cohesion is the main concern of HH the Amir, which necessitated these amendments, in reality, preserving these customs and traditions and pushing towards their cohesion is the solid foundation for preserving the national identity as a whole. This is what prompted Qatar yesterday to hold a referendum on the amendments with a “big yes” that everyone said, young and old, and those who brought their children to this “national ceremony” were only passing the torch of Qatari people’s valu
es from hand to hand, as they are the foundation and essence of Qatar’s renaissance.
