Doha: The Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DIGS), in collaboration with the National Committee for the Preparation of the National Human Rights Plan, has launched the first training workshop aimed at students involved in drafting the National Human Rights Plan for 2026-2030.
According to Qatar News Agency, the workshop saw participation from 40 students across various academic disciplines and was inaugurated by the Vice-Chairperson of the National Committee, Sarah bint Ali Al Saadi. The event also had representatives from the National Planning Council, the National Human Rights Committee, and several other national institutions in attendance.
Sarah Al Saadi highlighted the importance of engaging academic youth in the national process, emphasizing that it aligns with the State's commitment to fostering community participation and promoting a human rights culture at institutional and academic levels.
Dr. Ayhab Saad, Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Management, and Public Policy at the Doha Institute, praised the collaboration between the Institute and the National Committee. He remarked that this initiative signifies the integration of academic education with national endeavors in developing evidence-based, participatory public policies.
The workshop presented a comprehensive training on the National Human Rights Plan's general framework, methodologies for its preparation, and skills for session management and documentation. Participants were divided into working groups focusing on the plan's five pillars: civil and political rights; economic, social, and cultural rights; rights of vulnerable groups; emerging human rights issues and due diligence; and international peace, security, and relations.
A practical exercise on writing session minutes, analyzing discussions, and formulating recommendations was conducted, followed by an open discussion on challenges and opportunities in documentation and field analysis processes.
