Doha: QatarEnergy has entered into a long-term urea supply agreement with Japan's Mitsui and Co., Ltd. The agreement, set for 20 years, outlines the supply of up to 0.5 million tons of urea annually to Mitsui, commencing in January 2026.
According to Qatar News Agency, HE Minister of State for Energy Affairs, the President and CEO of QatarEnergy, Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, expressed satisfaction regarding the agreement. He noted the long-standing partnership with Mitsui and emphasized the significance of this deal in reinforcing their collaborative efforts.
HE Minister Al Kaabi highlighted the increasing global demand for urea and QatarEnergy's commitment to expanding its influence in the urea production sector. He referenced the company's plans announced in September 2024 to develop a new, large-scale urea production complex. This initiative aims to more than double Qatar's urea production, positioning the country as the leading exporter worldwide.
The agreement with Mitsui underscores QatarEnergy's strategic goal of forming enduring alliances with respected industry leaders. It also reaffirms the company's commitment to bolstering global food production and security.
