UDST Convenes 4th National Diabetes Care Symposium

Doha: University for Science and Technology (UDST) held the 4th National Symposium on Diabetes Care under the theme: "Transforming Diabetes Care for Well-Being: Innovations in Education, Research, and Person-Centered Practice". The event emphasized advancing patient-centered approaches, promoting innovative education and research, and enhancing the quality of care for diabetes patients nationwide.

According to Qatar News Agency, the symposium was convened in collaboration with various concerned and specialized entities, focusing on the latest developments, challenges, and opportunities in diabetes care and prevention. The gathering brought together domestic and international healthcare experts to discuss metabolic health through a comprehensive scientific program that included key lectures and interactive panel discussions on diabetes treatment.

The discussions also explored innovations in managing cardiovascular disease and atherosclerosis risks, comprehensive patient-centered care, and integrating mental health and behavioral modification into diabetes management. Additionally, structured diabetes patient education and multidisciplinary approaches to optimize metabolic health outcomes were highlighted.

A panel discussion during the symposium focused on the National Health Strategy 2024-2030 and the action plan to combat obesity, diabetes, and modifiable risk factors for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. It highlighted national efforts in preventing and treating childhood obesity and promoting a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to non-communicable disease care across Qatar.

The program included an exhibition showcasing contributions from leading healthcare and academic institutions in diabetes care, research, and education in Qatar, underscoring UDST's commitment to advancing healthcare education and research in line with Qatar's national vision for sustainable health development.

UDST President Dr. Salem bin Nasser Al Naemi expressed pride in the university's role as a platform that combines education, research, and practice to address national challenges. He emphasized the symposium's embodiment of the commitment to building occupational capacities and boosting innovation in diabetes education, contributing to national efforts to reduce chronic illnesses.

Dr. Dabia Al Mohanadi, Division Chief of Endocrine and Director of the Qatar Metabolic Institute at Hamad Medical Corporation, emphasized the collaborative intent to provide top-notch, patient-centered integrated healthcare. She noted the interconnected nature of diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases, stressing the need for multidisciplinary and coordinated solutions.

Sheikh Dr. Mohamed bin Hamad Al-Thani, Director of the Department of Non-Communicable Diseases Prevention Programs at the Ministry of Public Health, highlighted the National Diabetes Strategy's success in mitigating the burden on individuals with diabetes. He praised the collaboration among competent authorities and emphasized the importance of training, research, and personal practices in combating the illness.
